Woodend Farm at Armadale carries 270 suckler cows and 650 Ewes. The Benhar Luing herd consists of 180 Pedigree Luing cows half bred pure and half to Simmental bull to produce Sim/Luing females. 90 Sim/Luing cows are bulled with the Charolais bull & Heifers going to the Limousin. 150 cows calf in March and 120 Calving in July.

Spring born calves are introduced to creep in late summer feeding Davidsons Beef Bloom. The top end of the Charolais & Limouisn calves are sold late October usually around 350-380 kg. The smaller calves are overwintered and sold store early march

Calves are weaned late October and fed a TMR of silage, Barley and Davidsons 34% meal Targeting a daily weight gain of 1kg for Heifers and 1.2kg for Bullls.

Luing and Sim/Luing bulls step up to an Adlib Barley Beef Diet in January with a daily weight gain of around 1.8kg per day. Finished Bulls are sold to ABP Perth with Luings around 380kg and Sim/Luings at 400kg deadweight with R & U conformation grades.

Summer born calves are creep fed Beef Bloom at housing, weaned late Feb and sold store in April & May.

Sim Luing Heifers not retained for stock are sold in Calf at the Luing Cattle Society sale in Stirling, Luing in Calf Heifers along with a few pedigree Luing bulls are sold at the Luing sale in Castle Douglas.
