Meet the Dairy Tech Team – Sam Hodgson

June 9, 2020

I began working for Davidsons as a gap year placement student in 2015, before returning full time in 2017 upon completion of my degree in Agriculture from Harper Adams University becoming a key member of the Dairy Tech Team.

With a lifelong background within agriculture, particularly dairy farming, inspired by my father who is a full time dairyman on a 300 cow dairy unit in Yorkshire, whilst maintaining a flock of 300 pedigree ewes at home.

My interest within the dairy industry first came from my father and helping out at the farm he manages. Also within the placement year with Davidsons I worked closely with Premier Nutrition managing the TMS (Transition Management Systems) programme in Scotland and the north of England. This involved working closely with dairy farms and assessing their transition period providing key advice on how to better there system sparking my passion for nutrition.

My key focus on farm is to ensure maximum utilisation of forage in rations while achieving maximum yield potential and herd health, with a focus on the transition period supported by a strong belief in the the success of this stage of lactation benefiting the herd going forwards.
