Tell us a bit about you?

I am originally from Yorkshire but made the move to Davidsons back in 2014 as a student. I have been in the industry for over 10 years and studied an Agricultural degree specialising in Animal nutrition at Harper Adams University. I started with Davidsons as a student in a placement position mainly setting up our TMS (Transition Management System) and supporting external reps. Once I completed my degree, I came back to cover Cumbria mainly focusing on dairy accounts, then in 2019, the Dairy Tech team was founded. I am mostly based in Cumbria, but also cover Northumberland and Stranraer.

What’s your role, and what do you do day-to-day?

My role at Davidsons as part of the Dairy Tech team is supporting customers within the dairy industry, from technical services with robots, parlours and out of parlour feeders to supporting customers with transition and calf and heifer management. Day to day, I manage my farms through looking through the cows, assessing dietary needs and managing and assessing the customers individual needs and goals through the system in place.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

Working in a friendly team for a family business is by far the best thing about Davidsons. On farm, my favourite part of my job is seeing the improvements made I can make for my customers and overcoming any challenges they may have. From assisting with nutrition and rationing, to having an input with changes to the farm such as shed design, all with the goal to maximise profitability for the farmer. I enjoy learning about the various systems used in the industry, and at Davidsons, we’ve made significant investments in development. We’ve sought guidance from industry experts such as Zinpro, Lallemand, robotics technicians to ensure we stay current with the latest technology and software solutions.”

What makes you stand out from other consultants?

I believe we have a practical approach to dairy nutrition and advice, working with our clients closely to get the best possible results. By providing simple, affective advice we can improve profitability by making small but effective changes. We are also proactive and looking for the next step in nutrition through on farm trail work working with trusted suppliers to ensure we are one step ahead.

What do you do on farm that makes you different to others?

On farm Dairy Tech provides essential back up for our clients through a wealth of knowledge. We are also able to think outside the box to find solutions for our clients through our team and through the strong relationships we have with our valued suppliers and industry experts.

What can you do on farm to benefit your customers?

On farm, Dairy Tech are here to help. Not only through nutritional advice, we are helping our clients with milk contract compliance, from costings through to maintaining the ration within the milk buyers expectations, sustaining profitability, production and cow health.

What inspired you to purse this career?

I have always been passionate about farming. Back when I was a teenager I worked part time in a feed mill in Yorkshire that sparked my interest in nutrition. Through my role in the Dairy Tech team, I have been able to work in the industry I love, also with dairy farms and progressing my knowledge within the sector, not only through nutrition, as there is so much more to learn.

What are your hobbies outside work?

Outside of work, I have a young family that’s passionate about farming. I am heavily involved in my parents farm who moved up to Cumbria in 2023 and now run a beef and sheep enterprise rearing around 300 dairy bred beef calves a year selling them as stores and run around 300 ewes, a mix of commercial and pedigree. My wife and I have just started up a pedigree Suffolk flock with the intention of breading tups to go alongside out existing Charollais, Beltex X and Texel X tups.
