The Maxwell family at Halket Leathes Farm, Castle Douglas, have embraced a new era of dairy farming with the installation of four GEA R9500 robotic milking systems, replacing their traditional eight-a-side parlour.
The move to a guided-entry and guided-exit system has been supported by careful shed design, tailored nutrition and hands-on expertise from Dairy Tech consultant Stephen Taylor & John Rogers. Together, these have helped ensure a smooth transition, with a strong focus on cow comfort, herd performance and feeding efficiency.
A Smooth Transition, Backed by Experience
“From shed design and cow comfort to feed training and start-up support, Dairy Tech consultant Stephen was there every step of the way. His calm, practical approach and knowledge of both nutrition and the GEA robotic system helped make the transition smooth for our cows and our team.
His ongoing support with ration adjustments and herd performance analysis continues to help us get the best from our cows.
We value both his knowledge of cow nutrition as well as his understanding of the GEA robotic system. Hand in hand along with the rest of our start up team, it all made for a very smooth transition for our cows. We really valued the support of Davidsons Dairy Tech and your commitment to being on site throughout the start-up process. We are fortunate to have you as part of the team, not only during the transition but also in the ongoing support that has followed.”

The Right Nutrition for Robotic Milking
“Working alongside Stephen and Davidsons Dairy Tech team was seamless and transformative during the Robotic installation for David Maxwell and Family at Halket Leathes Farm Castle Douglas who have recently installed 4 GEA R9500 Dairy-Robots.
With Davidsons Animal Feeds’ consistent, high-quality, nutritionally balanced feed playing a key role, the herd’s diet was optimised to support both health and productivity throughout the transition from conventional milking.
Their collaborative approach means that feed formulations are tailored to complement and assist in reducing waste and ensuring precise delivery (Feeding to Yield) to each individual cow.”
